Accountant Trainee Part-Time

Position Description:
The purpose of this position is to provide assistance of an accounting nature to the Controller.

Nature and Scope:
The person in this position reports directly to the Controller and indirectly to the Vice President of Finance. The incumbent has no direct reports. In addition to gaining a functional knowledge of all other accounting jobs and duties, the incumbent will be responsible for identifying, verifying, and posting expense, revenue, assets and liability entries to the general ledger, in a timely fashion. This includes maintaining and compiling financial data for both corporate and departmental requirements. This person is responsible for reconciliations of various balance sheet accounts and offering suggestions about resource utilization, tax strategies, and assumptions underlying budget forecasts.

The incumbent will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. The Accountant will work under direct supervision of the Controller. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required; however, incumbent will consult with supervisor on any major accounting issue.

Principal Accountability:
Participate in monthly reconciliations of various general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy. Participate in annual reconciliations of all general ledger accounts at year end.

Reconciliation of all bank accounts as directed by the Manager.

Prepares and posts journal entries as needed.

Completes external and internal reports on a timely basis.

Evaluates subsidiary journals for obvious errors and omissions and enters corrected data into the general ledger. Performs all tasks associated with the general ledger, i.e., enters monthly journal entries, executes monthly closing entries, executes other month-end general ledger closing duties (by cost center and by account), as directed by the Manager.

Assists outside auditors at year-end to include preparing schedules, providing explanation of supporting materials and procedures, and preparing any other necessary data.

Performs various duties for Taylor Leasing and Rental to include:

Invoices monthly for fee income and all recurring lease payments.

Performs all general ledger accounting for capital and operating leases.

Posts payment receipts daily.

Maintains and applies for business licenses and permits.

Maintains depreciation schedule for operating leases monthly.

Collects and tracks fleet usage information.

Files uniform commercial codes.

Registers and re-registers TLR in states where business is conducted.

Assists Manager of Leasing / Manager of Credit as needed.

Performs general accounting and other related duties in daily administration of accounting department.

As time permits and need occurs, may assist the Controller with cost accounting, and other duties of an accounting nature.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Controller or the Vice President of Finance
