Job Description

***This is a part time position of 20 hours a week. This will be a M-F position with set hours of 10 am to 2 pm daily. ***


The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Processes incoming and outgoing mail; collects mail from and delivers mail to the Post Office; sorts, organizes, and distributes incoming mail to appropriate departments; verifies outgoing mail; affixes postage utilizing automated postage metering machine; operates City vehicle for collections and deliveries.

Processes utility bills, annual business license applications, and other special mailings; operates automated inserting and folding machine; sorts mail by zip codes; affixes postage utilizing automated postage metering machine; prepares bulk mail report; delivers bulk mailings to Post Office; troubleshoots problems with automated equipment.

Maintains supplies and equipment; maintains inventories of supplies, forms, and equipment; ensures availability of adequate supplies to complete work activities; performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, cleaning equipment, and cleaning work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.

Operates a City vehicle; conducts pre- and post-trip inspections, including checking all fluids, gauges, lighting, mirrors, tires, body damage, seats and seatbelts, cleanliness of vehicle, etc.; loads and unloads materials, supplies and equipment as needed to complete assigned projects; reports all problems or necessary repairs to appropriate personnel immediately; completes and maintains inspection, gas usage and other associated documentation.

Communicates with supervisor, City employees, postal workers, consultants, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Prepares or completes various forms, reports, work orders, inventory sheets, time sheets, fuel usage records, odometer readings, or other documentation of service activities; forwards, retains, or files, as appropriate.

Receives various forms, reports, work orders, maintenance reports, equipment specifications, schematics, manuals, policies, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

Operates automated mail equipment, automobile, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.


Makes special deliveries as required.

Picks up supplies from the warehouse for departments.

Loads boxes and delivers to warehouse.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by six (6) months experience in mail delivery or mailroom operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
