Department: COM | Otolaryngology Faculty
Summary of Job Duties: Responsible for providing health supervision exams for infants, children and adolescents. The Pediatric Otolaryngology APRN will work in collaborative practice with the Pediatric Otolaryngology physicians, clinic nursing staff and residents, in the inpatient and outpatient settings to help deliver care to this population of infants, children, and adolescents. The APRN will coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate. Independence, in consultation and billing of inpatient and outpatient consultations will be expected. There will be opportunity for clinical research, based on the applicant’s training and interest. The Pediatric Otolaryngology APRN is responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the UAMS Department of Otolaryngology, Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology, and the mission of Arkansas Children’s Hospital

Job Duties (Performs Role of):
- Gathers information systematically and skillfully from all sources for both new and established patients: perinatal and past medical history, diagnostic tests, comprehensive physical examination, behavioral, developmental, psychosocial assessments, differentiating between normal and abnormal variations for all body systems and accurately interpreting diagnostic tests.
- Utilizes critical thinking and the nursing process in the assessment and identification of patient/family long and short-term physical, psychological, educational and cultural needs for assigned patient populations.
- Provides ongoing and follow-up care and patient/family education.
- Accurately interprets health assessment data and applies findings in directing patient care.
- Utilizes knowledge and expertise when planning long and short-term care, including appropriate pharmacologic and diagnostic treatments as needed.
- Documents all health data and plan of care and care according to policy.
- Evaluations patient/family response to the plan of care through systematic follow-up.
- Documentation of the patient/family outcomes, reassessing and modifying the plan as needed to achieve health goals.
- Accurately completes all billing forms, including diagnostic (ICD-9) and treatment (CPT) codes, based on federal and state laws in a timely manner.
- Communicates with referring physicians, allied health providers and hospital staff as appropriate.

Customer Service: Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed. Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary. Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines. Assist internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service. The APRN will extend the patient care and administrative services of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences physicians.
Master’s degree in nursing plus two (2) years of nursing experience required.
Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas; APRN/CPN License.
National Certification in Acute Care Pediatrics.
Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
