The Actuarial Assistant is responsible for assisting the Corporate Actuarial team with implementation efforts on the enterprise-wide financial transformation and modernization program. This role will require collaboration with various functional teams throughout the enterprise, including IT, Accounting, Actuarial, Finance, and Enterprise Business Improvement. The work done in this role will help ensure success of the largest financial transformation project the organization has undertaken to date, and the skills learned will carry forward into other actuarial positions in the enterprise.

This role is part of the OA Actuarial Student Program and requires successful completion of requirements to earn the FSA designation in order to remain with the program. The position is rotational in that the candidate would move to other actuarial departments at regular intervals to further his or her actuarial development.


  • Study for and pass SOA educational components in accordance with the OA Actuarial Student Program
  • Assist with actuarial model development and validation
  • Gather model conversion requirements
  • Design, build and test tools used to automate data manipulation
  • Analyze, document and implement decisions on impending GAAP Long-Duration Targeted Improvement (LDTI) accounting changes
  • Design and build tools used to automate actuarial report creation
  • Assist with end-to-end testing of future-state financial system architecture
  • Document processes and findings for proper governance of work completed
  • Communicate results of analyses to internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner and in ways befitting the intended audience


  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Preferred majors: actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
  • 2 SOA educational components passed Strong skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access) and computer programming languages (VBA, C++, Python) preferred
  • Actuarial internship preferred
  • Strong skills with data manipulation and analytics tools (Alteryx, SAS, R) preferred
  • Experience with actuarial software (Prophet, GGY AXIS) preferred
  • Or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background

Salary Band: 4C

As a condition of employment, OneAmerica requires that all new hires who receive a job offer on or after April 18, 2022 provide evidence of full or partial vaccination against COVID-19 within three days of accepting an offer letter with OneAmerica and before employment begins. This selected candidate will be expected to work hybrid in Indianapolis, IN. The candidate will also be expected to physically return to the office in Indiana as business needs dictate or for team-building and collaboration.
