Job description: This position is in the Office of General Counsel in Columbia. The Office of General Counsel acts as an in-house law firm for the agency and advises and represents the agency in a variety of matters and courts. The professional in this position will draft motions and briefs for review by the attorneys. This professional will construct records on appeal for submission to various state appellate courts, including review of claimant and employer files, and will exercise judgment regarding what documents should be included when construction records on appeal. They will also process subpoena and Freedom of Information Act requests, including review for exemptions and redactions.Knowledge of legal principles and practices, including constitutional, contract, employment, administrative, and business law; practices and procedures used in the conduct of appellate litigation, judicial procedures and rules of evidence; pertinent federal and state laws, codes, regulations, and court decisions related to unemployment insurance; methods of legal research; evaluation of the practice consequences of legal strategies.Experience with appellate practice and procedure and processing subpoena and FOIA requests.
Expected salary: $35360 – 65429 per year
