Job description: The Assistant Executive Director (AED) for Hillel at Temple University (Temple Hillel) will play a pivotal role in leading the organization to the next levels of success. This individual will be a strong leader with the ability to align a team around a vision, marshal resources effectively, and continue to build upon the organization’s successes The ideal candidate will be a multi-talented individual who is ready to think boldly and demonstrates adaptive leadership to ensure that Temple Hillel fulfills its mission, achieves its strategic goals and actualizes a creative and innovative vision for Jewish student life on campus. The AED will be responsible for day-to-day operations, ensuring inter-departmental collaboration, and managing employee performance and professional growth. The AED reports to and serves as a thought partner for the Executive Director.

What You’ll Do

  • Engage in vision setting with the Executive Director and senior management team, leading Temple Hillel in its continued drive to excellence and progress towards organizational goals.
  • Serve as the disruptor and change agent within the organization, looking for new, creative, and efficient ways of executing Hillel’s mission.
  • Strengthen the staff team and build an organizational culture of excellence.
  • Serves as the visionary and primary driver of a creative and innovative approach to Jewish student life on campus.
  • Facilitate collaboration and communication between the operations, student life, and development departments.
  • Motivate, inspire and drive the professional team by ensuring that each member of the staff team understands what success looks like, receives ongoing supervision, and has a personalized professional development plan in place.
  • Manage the annual budget and oversee day-to-day financial operations.
  • Hold key pieces of daily operations including interfacing directly with the accounting consultant, the operations team, and external vendors. Liaise with University partners and Aramark (kosher dining operators in the building)
  • Assist the ED in managing relationships with the Board of Directors and help in all areas of planning and partnership with lay leaders.
  • Serve as lead professional on select board task forces and committees.
  • Manage a portfolio of donors while participating in all major fundraising strategy conversations.
  • Participate in relevant student life programs including Shabbat, Birthright Israel, alternative breaks as well as other signature programs and key initiatives.

What You Bring to the Role

  • Master’s degree preferred with 7+ years of relevant experience in Jewish nonprofit work or equivalent.
  • The ability to align tasks with a broader vision, determine organizational priorities, and work collaboratively as part of a senior management team.
  • Proven track record of managing a multi-talented team, project management experience, and the ability to take initiative.
  • An acute ability to empower others while simultaneously being comfortable as the public face of the organization.
  • Proactive leadership abilities anticipating challenges and opportunities and the ability to craft and execute the appropriate response.
  • Critical thinking, a creative mindset, and a great sense of humor.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and highly developed communication abilities.
  • Strong Jewish knowledge and an ingrained passion for Jewish life and community, in its varied expressions.
