Full Job Description
Overview:
  • Introductory buying position with emphasis on efficient turn of inventory and expected service levels

Responsibilities:

  • Daily buying at a level that achieves service level goal of 97.5% in grocery, 98% in dairy/frozen and 96% in GM/HBC
  • Conducting forward buying, if required, to maximize return on investment for respective categories
  • Manage booked orders, including special order requests, in flow for timely shipping to customers to hit appropriate ad windows.
  • Responsible for the disposition of stale, discontinued, seasonal inventory and excess inventory using the Aged Inventory Report and Close Dated report from the warehouse
  • Collection of excess credits within 60 days of invoice date
  • Prepares information on product recalls in a timely manner and forwards to assistant for processing. Notifies category manager affected.
  • Prepares billbacks for late deliveries, missed appointments and fines for out of stock inventory and any product specific fines
  • Participates in regular visits to the warehouse, returns area, and retail stores to keep abreast of any problems or opportunities that may pertain to buying
  • Maintains consistent communication and positive relationships with all customers
  • Assist in all departmental activities, food shows, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership and analytical skills
  • Multi-tasking with strong organizational skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications

Dimensions:

  • Affecting inventory within range of $4 to $9 million
  • Categories and vendors are less complex in terms of buying, maintaining inventory and pricing
  • Serves on task forces or committees with emphasis on training
