Best known for Little Debbie® snack cakes, America’s leading snack cake brand, Sunbelt Bakery® Granola products, and Drake’s Cakes®, McKee Foods Corporation is seeking an experienced Communications Specialist to take on this exciting and challenging new role at our Gentry, AR manufacturing location.

This position reports to the Manager of Human Resources, leading the development of internal and external plant communications. The successful candidate will be a creative and multi-skilled professional with a detailed understanding of internal communications best practice.

Pay Grade

Salaried Grades 5 or 8

Pay range $60,000 to $85,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. The base salary range represents the starting and expected pay for this position. Actual salaries may vary and in some cases may be higher with extensive experience and strong performance.


Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (with some flexibility, other hours as needed)

Job Summary

The Communications Specialist will work with business partners to develop and execute communication strategies for plant operations. These plans will help grow employee engagement and enhance the connection of all employees, to our work, our company, and our community.

The Communications Specialist will manage a variety of communication projects. They will work with local stakeholders as well as Corporate Communications and other locations to develop and implement plans. They will concept, write, edit, design, and proofread a variety of communication content for various media, including; magazines, newsletters, posters, videos and other internal electronic communications (MIX) and web content. They will coordinate other activities such as employee events, meetings, and promotional activities. They will participate in local sponsorship and public relations events. They will seek opportunities to improve and innovate in how we best communicate. Provides occasional administrative support for the HR manager and vice president, operations and perform other responsibilities as requested.

Required Qualifications

Education: Have completed Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree (4 year) in a field applicable to Communication Specialist responsibilities; Communications, English, Journalism, PR, or Marketing. (Or have equivalent work experience in an exempt level communication position; 2 years’ experience may be substituted for 1 year of education) AND

Experience: Have one year of work experience in a position with primary communications responsibilities. (writing, proof reading, editing, communication strategy)

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate strong leadership credentials and have experience developing and implementing successful internal communications projects and campaigns.

Exhibit strong computer application software skills (i.e. MS office Suite/ assessments required)

Provide a writing portfolio which demonstrates skills in writing, editing and proofreading.

Exhibit basic graphic design and photography skills and have 1 year experience or training with the design software.

Provide a design portfolio which demonstrates basic to advanced skills in graphic design. Indicating on examples, where they have digitally assembled and designed or where they have provided creative direction to others on a piece.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supervising other people and projects, especially with an understanding of corporate and project budgeting.

Experience writing multiple styles, including straight news, features, press releases and speeches.

Experience as spokesperson and dealing with the media

Experience working with teams including senior executives

Experience coordinating events

Demonstrated basic skills in social media using mobile devices for simple video production.
