Under general supervision of Program Director, performs analytic duties governed by broad instructions, objectives & policies, frequently involving changing conditions & problems. Performs advanced statistical analyses using biostatistical/epidemiological/scientific methods & techniques in the design/analysis/evaluation of specific health problems using cancer registry data.

Prepares cancer data reports and provides data interpretation assistance. Serves as epidemiologic liaison to other areas of DHEC regarding their cancer data needs. Creates final datasets for approved research projects. Works closely with DHEC Institutional Review Board (IRB) on all approved research applications.

Coordinates all responses to concerns from the public or professional colleagues regarding suspected cancer clusters. Supervises Graduate Assistants and full-time or hourly staff to meet the demands of the extensive data request load of the SC Central Cancer Registry (SCCCR). Assigns and directs work for research, routine, and special projects.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in Public Health in epidemiology, biostatistics or a closely related field and relevant working experience. A Doctoral degree in epidemiology, or advanced training in applied epidemiology, such as the Public Health Prevention Specialist Program at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) may substitute for experience.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements: Proficiency in SAS programming. Extensive knowledge of advanced inferential statistics and epidemiologic methods. Considerable knowledge of research practice and methods

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with large data sets, data management, and data linkages. Ability to interpret and present information effectively in both written and oral formats. Knowledge of cancer epidemiology, cluster (spatial) analysis methods and interpretation; knowledge of NCI SEERPrep/SEERStat, and data linkage software.

DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.

Expected salary: $52357 – 74613 per year
