Full Job Description
Job Summary:
The information hostess complements and enhances the patient experience by providing guest services to families and visitors. Greets and provides general information to families and visitors in order to help them navigate throughout the organization. Provides resources regarding hospital and community events, seminars, classes, and meetings. Provides assistance or obtains aid to help families if needed. The hostess is a key contact person for clinics when sending patients for admission, lactation help, etc. Some of the tasks include, but are not limited to:

Welcome our visitors and families and assist with directions.

Escort our visitors and families to requested designations in a timely but safe manner.

Provide patient location information.

Assemble Labor and Delivery packets.

Contact taxis and medicabs if needed.

Arrange wheelchair/courtesy cart assistance for patients, families, and visitors when needed.

Provide community and hospital resource information, including hospital amenities and local hotel accommodations.

Help to maintain the entrance of Women’s Services in a manner that represents a clean, inviting, and caring environment for our customers.

Demonstrate knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.

Performance Expectations:
● Understands and adheres to HIPAA policies and patient confidentiality guidelines.

● Demonstrates proficiency in navigating EPIC to locate patients for visitors and families.

● Must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills.

● Must be able to speak clearly, read, write, and follow written and oral instructions accurately.

● Must be friendly, outgoing with a commitment to service, and takes initiative.

● Demonstrates knowledge of department directory, location, and organizational structure.

● Demonstrates the ability to utilize hospital phone system.

● Demonstrate ability to function under pressure and in sensitive situations.

● Demonstrate an understanding of hospital emergency codes and responsibilities.

● Demonstrate competency practicing proper hand hygiene prevention practices.


High school diploma or equivalent required. Due to the environment, this position requires a high level of maturity, friendly, and outgoing personality. Must be able to take the initiative, communicate clearly and follow-up, always closing the service loop for those we care for. Must be physically able to walk long distances.

Work Experience:
Experience working with the public required. Job specific orientation and training will be provided, including wayfinding, hospital resources and services.

Mental Demands:
Must possess a sincere interest in helping people. Abilities need to be flexible because of a variety of tasks associated with the department. Must have ability to maintain a good working relationship among co-workers and staff of other departments. Must possess tact and good judgment in dealing with hospital staff, patients, and visitors. Practices good guest relations at all times
