The Systems Engineering group-comprised of the asset information / geographic information systems (GIS) team, the engineering asset management (EAM) team, and the data analytics team-is responsible for delivering and implementing the tools and technology required to achieve Amtrak’s enterprise asset management strategy for the Infrastructure Maintenance & Construction Services (IMCS) disciplines. Systems Engineering drives value by shaping the product & portfolio asset management strategies to deliver solutions that reduce asset downtime, extend equipment life, and optimize system performance to reduce the overall cost of asset management. Establishing a robust partnership with the IMCS disciplines (Track, Communications & Signals, Electric Traction, Bridges & Buildings, Equipment & Facilities) is critical to guiding development of Amtrak’s asset management system and driving an industry-leasing asset management practice.

The Lead Mobile Analyst is responsible for driving development of EAM mobile applications and providing device management support to field users for asset management (including inspections and maintenance), timekeeping, and mobile document control. The Lead Mobile Technologist serves as a liaison between IMCS disciplines and IT to ensure that mobile software solutions meet the requirements of IMCS business processes and asset management best practices and that functionality is user-friendly and accessible through a single device.


  • Work with IMCS disciplines and IT to identify and thoroughly understand the disciplines’ work and asset management needs and ensure that development of mobile applications aligns with those needs.
  • Continuously evaluate mobile user proficiencies and output to ensure mobile EAM applications deliver expected results without overburdening users.
  • Support IT Systems Support and Mobile Support teams and vendors, as appropriate, to ensure that external (to IMCS) resources are properly allocated to ensure critical systems and interfaces function as required.
  • Oversee user acceptance testing activities associated with rollout of new mobile asset management applications and functionality to ensure end user concerns are addressed as part of the development and implementation process.
  • Oversee ongoing quality control activities for EAM mobile systems and interfaces and develop quality assurance processes to drive continuous improvement in business process development and asset management practices.
  • Provide device management support for IMCS field users.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mobile App Development, etc. or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Minimum 3 years working in Operations, Business, or related field
  • Mobile application systems deployment experience in a field environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in IT/Engineering systems support and training.
  • Highly developed organizational and issue management and resolution activities.
  • Working knowledge of asset, work and maintenance management, best practices, and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport with all levels of the organization and to communicate effectively with department heads, managers, supervisors, and clerical staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage organizational change.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to translate business processes to mobile requirements.
  • Working knowledge of mobile application design.


  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mobile App Development or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience
  • Understanding of Maximo, asset and work management system, organizational and business processes
  • Working knowledge of ISO 55000, PAS 55, or other Asset Management standards
  • Related workforce management experience
  • Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Office and field work environment.
  • Travel 25-50%.
  • Travel to other Amtrak offices and right-of-way sites that are not accessible by train travel.


Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

The salary/hourly range is $87,850 – $119,550. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation. If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.
