Job description: Job Responsibilities
Performs preventive maintenance inspection on state equipment, following the prescribe fluid levels, lubrication, fueling, and tire servicing policies, rules, and regulations. Report major preventive servicing problems to Shop Supervisor. Utilizes proper welding techniques in order to assist skilled mechanics in order to repair and upgrade equipment by fabricating and welding parts. Install and repair inclement weather equipment (i.e. snow plows, sand/salt spreaders. Ensure proper time is charged to appropriate job tasks performed on equipment. Performs repairs on state equipment and make daily entries on time sheet. Maintaining and repairing electrical systems. Makes necessary repairs on hydraulic hoses, pump, motors and systems. Repair or replace starters, alternators and carburetors. Make repairs to mowers to include hydraulic systems. Repair and replace controls as needed. Report major problems to Shop Supervisor. Maintain accurate records in the use of materials and parts according to state guidelines. Keep parts and equipment clean and organized. Inspects vehicles/equipment for safety, checking the brake and exhaust system, etc. Assist Mechanic III in making more complex repairs on state equipment SCDOT Series 001 through 240. Respond to service calls in the field to tractor mowers, dump trucks, and equipment, determine the severity of the problem and make necessary repairs. Enter data into logs for fuel consumption, engine hours, repairs and supplies/parts used. Perform job in compliance with Safety and Environmental policies and procedures, using the available Personal Protection Equipment as required. Assists with emergency operations during inclement weather. May include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor/Resident Maintenance Engineer.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Six (6) months of work experience that is directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Expected salary: $30576 – 44199 per year
