Summary of Job Duties: Conduct analysis of blood, urine, spinal fluid, and other biological samples to determine the presence of normal and abnormal components in assigned sections.

Perform quality controls and perform corrective action as required. Act as a resource for problem solving issues related to quality control assessment.

Enter test results and other data related to analysis and communication of results into relevant computer information systems.

Provide technical information about specimen collection, specimen transport, required documentation, test methods, and other technical information to RN’s, physicians, or laboratory clients.

Set-up, maintain, and operate lab automation systems used to process samples.

Operate, calibrate, and maintain equipment used in analysis such as spectrophotometers, analyzers, mixers, rotators, and pipettes.

Perform minor troubleshooting on equipment used to perform testing or store supplies.

Maintain equipment used for personal protection and safety such as eyewashes, safety showers, etc.

Maintain temperature dependent equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, incubators, water baths, and heat blocks.

Daily quality control reviews and assist supervisor with monthly quality control review investigations.

Assist in training and supervision of students, act as preceptor for new hires, and assess competency.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree form a regionally accredited university in medical technology, medical laboratory science, or approved biological science. ASCP or equivalent certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), or discipline specific certification (C, H). 2-5 years experience in a clinical laboratory.
