Mortgage Loan Closer

Job Type: Full-time

Salary Range: $16.73 – $25.10


The Mortgage Loan Closer provides support to mortgage loan officers and other mortgage support staff ensuring that loans are closed in a timely manner with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. The Mortgage Loan Closer will also work closely corresponding with title companies to complete closing packages and help with completing outgoing wires. This position requires attention to detail, ability to maintain a working calendar and prioritization of files by loan type and member need. Additional responsibilities include verifications for current employment and obtaining proper payoffs for members on applicable loans when necessary. Additionally, the Mortgage Loan Closer will work to enhance internal and external relationships associated with the loan process to build and maintain rapport and continuity with a focus on making the loan closing experience seamless and enjoyable for our member.

  • Obtain knowledge of HHCU policy guidelines concerning income, documentation, debt ratios, loan to value ratios, credit reports, etc.
  • Verifies authenticity of mortgage applications and associated documents to ensure compliance with loan policy and best practices
  • Builds rapport by establishing credible relationships with members and prospective members through consistent high-quality service.
  • Utilizes other business units as needed to assist members.

Member and Business Focus – Continuously works with others in the department to ensure the fastest possible close times are available to our member. Has a high priority on tracking of third-party documents and is dedicated to quickly and accurately close loans

  • Creates business value for the membership and aligns the organization with success by establishing relationships within the department and with third-party vendors to optimize efficiency of the mortgage process.
  • Serves as a trusted resource to members and fellow team members by possessing strong knowledge of HHCU products, services, and member experience standards, and always acts in the best interest of the member.
  • Engages in problem resolution from start to finish by clarifying the issue, determining the cause, and following up to ensure there is a resolution.
  • Able to be well-organized, detailed oriented and focused on making the member experience a top priority

Acumen and Technical Savvy – Possesses proficiency in mortgage lending, banking systems, and process knowledge to ensure records accuracy, policy compliance and member satisfaction with every transaction.

  • Delivers superior service to members by ensuring continuity of the mortgage loan is handled promptly, accurately and within compliance.
  • Maintains Hoosier Hills Credit Union email inbox, physical mail, and other written communications, and efficiently responds to inquiries, and directs to appropriate HHCU team member when necessary.
  • Works in partnership with others in the Mortgage department by developing relationships with Mortgage Loan Officers, Underwriters, Processors and other Closers.
  • Completes annual Bank Secrecy/OFAC and any related training annually as assigned by Training or Compliance Staff. Comply with all applicable BSA/AML laws, rules, regulations, policies, and business practices established by Credit Union management.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Excellent communications skills (both oral and written)

  • Strong knowledge of Mortgage products and other Credit Union products and services

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • 1-2 years’ mortgage, lending or banking experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of lending, policies, and principles, preferred

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Normal accessibility of branch and corporate work sites required for the position
  • Normal physical mobility and agility, which includes movement from place to place on the job, and the ability to maneuver body while in place
  • Normal dexterity of hands and fingers
  • Normal coordination, including eye-hand, hand-foot
  • Works in typical administrative setting with climate control and appropriate lighting.
  • Work requires occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, taking frequency into consideration
