Peer Support Specilist

Ouachita Behavioral Health and Wellness is in need of a Peer Support Specialist for our Community Diversion Team project that will focus on reducing criminal justice system involvement by diverting clients from jail, and addressing the symptoms and behaviors of serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders that are most often associated with criminal justice system. The Peer Support Specialist is an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team that will consist of a mental health professional, case manager, and forensic specialist. The specialist will provide substance abuse recovery services to include relapse prevention plans, assist with treatment planning, life skills coaching, provide resources for referrals, and one on one coaching to persons. Settings that this position may work in are jails/prisons, crisis intervention team, courts/specialty courts, halfway houses, mental health office and community settings. The goal of this position is to reduce recidivism and relapse by providing continuous engagement with the client.

Qualification:
Minimum HS Diploma. Bachelor’s Degree Preferred.

Experience working with clients that have co-occurring disorders and substance abuse disorders.

Knowledge and experience with the criminal justice system and helping others towards recovery and self-efficacy.

Capacity to function effectively within the context of the cultural beliefs, behaviors and needs of clients and the community.

Clean driving record and background check.

Ability to work independently and also as an integral member of the team.

Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals at all levels of the organization.

Computer/database and audio-visual skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Products.

This is a non-exempt position. Hourly rate from $17.00 per hour – $19.00 per hour.

Work day is Monday – Friday 8:00-5:00.
