We are hiring a Fermentation Operator at our Kingstree, SC Nutritional Products facility for a 12hr rotating shift.

The Challenge

The Fermentation Operator controls the fermentation process to produce algae-based end products. Safely perform various operational functions in assigned area of Fermentation department to support the production goals and quality standards.

You’ll be responsible to:

  • Operate process equipment and utilities to include changing process conditions, open/closure of valves, sterilization of piping/tanks, monitor process conditions and adjust as needed.
  • Determine psi readings and calculations.
  • Check and calculate material weights to ensure proper amounts.
  • Monitor and adjust tank pressures as necessary to stay within required ranges
  • Convert weight measurements between standard (lbs.) pounds and metric (kilograms) when measuring raw materials.
  • Use scale when prepping anti-foam to make sure it is the correct weight.
  • Uses pressure gauge when sterilizing filters to validate pressure levels.
  • Confirms all product ingredients are available for use in process using a checklist.
  • Uses Delta V software to check various process readings and adjust running conditions as needed.
  • Reads and follows various SOPs and Work Instruction documents.
  • Completes Lock-Out Tag Out tickets, Safe Work Permits, and other safety required documentation.
  • Writes/reads shift notes on daily tasks for the day; receives and reads emails regarding production needs or company communications.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues along the fermentation process. Performs basic maintenance, including cleaning tanks and maintaining clean and safe work environment.
  • Checks safety signage and bulletins for safety notices before entering other areas in the plant.
  • Learns and follows DSM Nutritional Products policies and procedures by reading material and applying it to work environment.
  • Uses radio equipment and other communication devices to communicate with co-workers and supervisor
  • Follows all safety guidelines and immediately reports any non-conformances
  • Maintains GMP work environment and performs housekeeping duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
  • Ensures Quality procedures, Management Directives and Quality requirements are followed. Supports and accurately maintains proper documentation of process information and records.
  • Reports any quality deviations or non-conformances that you observe.
  • Supports routine Quality talks/briefings with staff to raise Quality awareness (for those with direct reports).
  • Has the authority to intervene in the event of a quality or safety protocol concern.

What we like to see in your experience:

  • High degree of manual dexterity and good mechanical and technical aptitude
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Close attention to detail and ability to complete accurate documentation.
  • Employees working in a similar position of the same or higher criteria may forgo the testing requirements.
  • 2 years of production experience in a chemical manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Must have working knowledge of manufacturing SOP’s.
  • Must be able to identify when manufacturing process is not operating at an acceptable range and implement trouble shooting techniques.

Requirements:

  • Able to work a 12-hour rotating shift
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • WIN Testing (or equivalent Work Keys) with minimum scores below required:
  • SKILL AREA SKILL LEVEL
  • Applied Mathematics 3
  • Locating Information 4
  • Reading for Information 4
