Summary of Job Duties: Summary Of Job Duties


Assist Extension Entomologist in the coordination of Row Crop Entomology Program: field trial evaluation of pest control studies in cotton, rice, soybean, grain sorghum, corn, and wheat; data collection and analysis. The job requires extensive fieldwork throughout the year subject to extreme conditions, the ability to operate and maintain large equipment. The applicant will be required to prepare reports and educational materials for professional meetings.

Job Duties:

Conduct applied research responsibilities to include: planning; spraying; planting; plot maintenance; collecting, recording, and analyzing data; and, incorporating the data into data management software. Summarize data, prepare reports and develop visual aids. Examples: Experimental Design, Treating Seed, Planting Plots, Spraying Plots, Data Collection, Harvesting Plots, Data Analysis, Report Preparation, and Presenting Results.

Provides indirect supervision to temporary/seasonal employees. Duties also include equipment operation, maintenance, purchasing, and record keeping. Extensive travel will be required at times, and overnight stays are sometimes necessary.


Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work from multiple projects, make sound judgments, and assume responsibility for various projects and activities. Ability to exercise initiative, respond positively to direction from supervisors, and work without direct supervision. Ability to remain focused and exercise close attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to develop and deliver quality presentations. Proficiency in data management.


Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or related field plus three (3) years of related professional experience OR a related Master’s degree is required. Applicants should have proficiency in driving, hauling, maintaining, and operating sprayers and other heavy agricultural equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in rice, cotton, and soybean insect scouting and small and large block fieldwork.
