Full Job Description
General Responsibilities:
Serve as a Special Agent in the State Law Enforcement Divisions’ Bomb Squad. Plans and conducts complex investigations into actual and/or suspected bombing and explosive – related matters, processing the scene, collecting and preserving evidence, conducting follow – up investigations, conducting interviews, preparing case file reports, testifying in court, and providing other support as determined necessary for successful resolution. Provide identification, technical advice, and render safe procedures on suspicious packages, suspected IEDs, homemade explosives (HME), and other explosive materials and components.

Specific Duties

Provide training, nutritional needs, grooms and maintains health and readiness of bomb canine on a daily basis.

Prepare and submit comprehensive and clearly written reports of each investigation to delineate all violations of law and/or investigations.

Conduct render safe and/or removal of improvised explosive devices, incendiary devices, explosives, explosive chemicals, pyrotechnics, and ammunition that presents a danger to public safety and provide legal and safe disposal of each material.

Conduct post bomb crime scene investigations to identify, collect, preserve and evaluate evidence for adjudication and compile and prepare technical data on those devices and incidents.

Assist State, County and Municipal authorities in the development of emergency response plans for dealing with bomb threats, improvised explosive devices and explosive material situations.

Assist in the presentation of training and educational programs to increase the awareness for the public service sector in the proper handling of explosive material response.

Provide assistance to law enforcement authorities upon the direction of the Captain, with regard to riot, natural disaster, protection of dignitaries and criminal activity as they may relate to the duties of a SLED Agent.

Must be a Certified Class I law enforcement officer through the SC Criminal Justice Academy with a minimum of 3 years experience as a certified law enforcement officer or currently be a law enforcement officer from another State or jurisdiction with at least 3 years of experience as a law enforcement officer and be capable of achieving Class I certification through the SC Criminal Justice Academy.

Must be currently certified as an FBI Hazardous Device School (HDS) Bomb Technician and must successfully complete explosive detection K9 school.

Must possess or be able to obtain an FBI security clearance.

Must be or become a certified SCUBA diver to at least the Master Diver Level and be able to operate underwater in low visibility conditions.

This position will require strenuous physical activities on a regular basis. Potential candidates must pass a comprehensive physical exam and basic proficiencies in a Bomb Suit as well as basic SCUBA proficiency in a pool with a no-visibility mask.
